Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta
May Bank Holiday weekend sees 3 Maritime Cities in 1 Cultural Adventure.
The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta links three maritime cities in an exciting adventure on the high seas, and a cultural adventure on dry land.
A stunning fleet of Tall Ships will battle the waves and each other in two separate regatta races – one from Liverpool to Dublin and the other from Dublin to Bordeaux.
It will call on the crews’ strength, seamanship and ingenuity as they embark on voyages between the trio of host cities, where hundreds of thousands of people will descend on the waterfront to see the masted giants of the sea.
The regatta starts with a long weekend of family-friendly fun and amazing art installations in Liverpool, a port which promises not simply a world-famous skyline and a rich maritime heritage, but the world’s warmest welcome.
Here, the festivities will unite the regatta’s destinations as the waterfront is divided in to three festival sites – Irish, French and Liverpool itself, each area packed with exciting events and thought-provoking activities, including the first time the Bordeaux Wine Festival has been held on British soil.
From Liverpool the Tall Ships will enjoy four days of racing across the Irish Sea to Dublin, capital of Ireland, where their arrival will coincide with the Dublin RiverFest.
And then the final leg of the thrilling ocean racing will take the ships across the Bay of Biscay to historic Bordeaux, where the prestigious ‘Fete le Vin’ takes over the banks of the Garonne.
The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta is organised by the Nobel-prize nominate Sail Training International, which is dedicated to sharing the joy of sailing with young people and has members in almost 30 countries.
